2. The answer to the paradox is simple: there is no clear Dem leader. So the worse Trump becomes, the more Dems argue over how to deal with him. This is all the moreso because Nancy Pelosi has decided to forgo leadership on impeachment.

3. The core Pelosi decision -- which I hope she changes -- is that impeachment doesn't make sense if there is no GOP buy-in. The reasoning here is that if only Dems push for impeachment it'll be seen as partisan. But this gives GOP veto power over issue.

it's clearly time to move toward a full fledged impeachment inquiry. but this is also why it's probably good for people to resist the no cost tendency to attack Democrats because they feel powerless to stop Trump.

The two trends at play are: 1. An expanding coalition of disaffected groups, which works to lower the approval rating of a POTUS over time & 2. A partisan "rallying around the flag" on behalf of the candidate which tends to bump up POTUS approval rating up as an election nears.
