If you underrate Ware's "Lint", you aren't qualified to comment on his work in general. Backlash criticism just embarrasses the critic.

Honestly, I haven't read much Ware criticism that isn't falling over itself praising his draftsmanship or taking the contrarian route out of a desperate need to prove he's not all that.

Whatever your feelings about his work, Chris Ware is one of those very few folks who come along every other generation to prove you can do so much more with a particular art form.

Full disclosure: Yes, we're related, but I never name-drop because that's tacky. Also, I've followed Chris' work since the 80s, and I've interviewed and written about him several times. I know what I'm talking about.

In politics people make made arguments because of motivated reasoning and self-interest. In comics, the bad arguments are rooted in something sadder, aesthetic obtuseness.
