I'm sympathetic to criminal justice reform, but am also very wary. We've had historical drops in crime the past generation. What fraction of that (if any) is due to high incarceration rates?

Obviously I think other things probably have an outsized contribution, like better tech. And we're perhaps incarcerating the wrong people. But I don't think Jeet's is an effective riposte to the original claims.

Who cares if our prison system is the count of Stalin's gulag if they're all guilty? This is a qualitative question, not a quantitative one.

Your assumption is that the USA never jails the innocent and also that everything that is a crime in America should be a crime. Both are demonstrably false.

Another assumption you are making is that the criminal justice system in America isn't racist. But there's a massive amount of evidence that it is. Imagine if black person had Hunter Biden's history of drug use.
