I'm concerned Biden is not up to it, but that the rest of the field got suckered into chasing the Bernie votehttp://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/09/democrats-presidential-candidates-old-radical-biden-warren-bernie.html …

There's time for Booker or Harris to compete for Biden's voters, but there's a coordination problem between the two of them. Case in point: @DLeonhardt argues for Harris:https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/15/opinion/kamala-harris.html?action=click&module=Opinion&pgtype=Homepage …

      and here's @michelleinbklyn a few weeks ago arguing for Booker: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/01/opinion/debate-cory-booker.html …

To be clear, I was arguing for Booker for people who want a more centrist candidate! My first choice is still Warren.

You made the argument for Booker better than Booker has been able to, for some reason. To me that's the mystery raised by JC's column: why haven't any of the non-doddering moderates gained traction?

Because the fact that he’s moderate isn’t the reason why Biden is polling so well!

I do think many (most?) votes think in less strictly ideological terms than most pundits (of any political stripe) seem to assume they do. The large number of Biden voters whose second choice is Bernie (and vice versa) suggests that other things are going on here.

Is that really so hard to figure? Most Dems want a candidate who will fight for reform, and Booker, Klobuchar, etc. seem to be pushing for a return to the pre-Trump status quo. Biden too, but he has name recognition and is part of the Obama legacy, which makes him seem electable.

Booker is my top choice. I’m serious when I say that he’d be a contender if he had hair. He was the winner of the last debate but he looks like Michael Avenatti.pic.twitter.com/FauBFXPQPw

this gets to my point over the weekend. the moderate voters are also the risk averse voters and the other moderate candidates have qualities (black, black and woman, gay) that are perceived as risky

          1) the media itself is not paying attention to them, focusing instead on the "drama" between Biden, Warren, and Bernie. 2) Booker may be good on paper but he's still lacking that "oomph" of charisma and confidence that Dem voters seek. It's been a problem going back decades.

Booker is fine making the argument for himself. People just need to accept that Biden’s lane is where it is until he is perceived as a loser. Booker OTOH is well liked in IA and he has lots of staff on the ground. 25-30%, same as it was in 2016 (b4 he closed the door)
