1. So, the CNN Climate forum was, on the whole, a very hopeful event: 7 hour marathon with candidates seriously discussing issue, offering competing plans, and putting it on the forefront of USA politics. Very welcome.

3. Part of the asymmetry of USA politics is that all serious climate debate can only take place inside one of the 2 major parties. In other words, the full spectrum of climate solutions is only on Dem side.

4. Because only the Dems talk about climate seriously, there's a lot of pressure on them to advocate the policies that GOP would normally do if they weren't in denial: nuclear, tech solutions. Very similar dynamic to health care debate.

The Florida GOP seems willing to at least entertain policy proposals and Gaetz (lmao i can't believe I'm saying this) has come forward with actual plans between Trump fellatio sessions. But I think its pretty limited overall.

You've got a couple of GOP members suggesting they'd support the most milquetoast of a carbon tax, the kinda thing that was the Democratic platform in like 2002. They're starting to move on from denying it's a problem to proposing the absolute smallest response they can.

Yeah. Was just reading this about how Frank Luntz opened his curtains, saw fire, & suddenly said this shite is real. So it's gonna take every GOP flak's house burning down?https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/how-should-we-talk-about-whats-happening-to-our-planet/2019/08/26/d28c4bcc-b213-11e9-8f6c-7828e68cb15f_story.html?wpisrc=nl_rainbow&wpmm=1 …
