The threat of black factory employment is not credible if blacks can't be hired due to racism or if they are enslaved, so isn't this threat more credible in a US without white supremacy? Employers should have higher profits with less racism and emancipation.

Then how do you explain what actually happened? Were employers militating for integration? Were they are the forefront of anti-racist organizing. No? So were they acting "irrationally" Were they not seeking to maximize utility? What gives?

People are not just motivated by economic factors and surely many employers shared the same racist views as other whites.

I am so curious about your use of "clearly." On what basis do you say this? Do you spend most of your time studying the political economy and culture of labor in the antebellum US? With all due respect, this is what I study. I'll take my expertise over your prognostication.

I realize this will sound aggressive, but in all seriousness, would you be willing to concede an inch for scholarly expertise?
