It was an offhand comment, one line, in a throwaway stump speech at an ice cream social in Iowa. Probably not the right move given the predictable way the media has exploded over it but hardly "focusing."

Right -- it was a misstep (and one that is easily exploitable by people opposed to both Sanders & Warren). When there is a misstep best to move on rather than double down and make it even bigger. The impulse to defend every misstep is also a political mistake.
