Sure, but the article only has three examples! You could just as easily argue that the 1970's-1980's and Obama-era backlashes were exceptions caused by the post-Civil Rights Act realignment and the backlash to Obama respectively.

(I also feel that turning "economic backlashes turn the country to the right by default" into conventional wisdom isn't going to lead to politicians on the left trying to push for new ideas when they happen, it's going to lead to them cringing and compromising.)
