1. The storm-clouds of recession are gathering and a few people, notably Bill Maher, are pleased by the prospect, thinking it'll help defeat Trump. That's too narrowly partisan a perspective.

3. Some thoughts on possible recession and how to push forward with progressive policies in the face of it. https://www.thenation.com/article/trump-recession-bill-maher/ …

I dunno. You can call it a "special circumstance", but the New Deal was the most important progressive legislation in American history, so that's a fairly major "special circumstance" and something that every Democratic politician should remember.

(The fact that we responded to being handed power by the 2008 collapse with bailouts and mealy-mouthed compromise is a big part of what got us to where we are today. It didn't have to be that way!)

Possible this potential recession is unlike other recessions in the sense that a lot of it has been caused by Trump and administration policies, i.e., the scope of it is really limited in that way? Like, if they win Dems will have to clean up the mess--by reversing Trump stuff.
-
i.e., it would be and work almost like an artificial or deliberately caused recession?

Jeet, I don't know if this assertion is true Sample size concerns, but in my lifetime (born August 1980), Dems have won "trifecta" twice (92 & 08), both during downturns. Reps have won trifecta twice (04, 16), both during expansions

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Trump won’t be implementing any progressive policies if he gets re-elected. I’d rather have a progressive president facing a stubborn congress than four more years of Trump.
