As a Jew, I have an opinion on whether a virulent anti-Semite should be canonized.
-
As a fellow Jew, I also don't like the idea of anti-Semitic saints, but I'm fairly certain Chesterton would be far from the first documented anti-Semite to be canonized.

What was his claimed miracle - smoking that many cigars and not dying of cancer?

I absolutely LOVED The Man Who was Thursday!
-
The Man Who Was Thursday is one of the best, weirdest books ever written. I can't read the final chapter without tearing up.

I do love The Man, as well as the poem with chorus "The rolling English drunkard made the rolling English road."

On this score I am thorough going Protestant -- i.e. I am baffled by and a bit hostile to the whole canonization thing. But to throw my useless 2 cents in -- splendid literary criticism gets you a sainthood?
