1. Is the New York Times an often irritating newspaper, one that is often not up to the task of covering Trump era? Sure. Is it worth cancelling your subscription? No, the act of cancelling is based on misunderstanding what the paper is all about.

Nah. The "kerfuffle" is about a paper that goes out of it's way to employ terrible opinion writers, both-sides racism, and talks down to it's subscribers because we aren't employed by the NYT so we can't possibly understand how difficult their jobs are.

If you don't live in NYC you should prioritize subscribing to a local news source.

Your're wrong. Its about them writing an inflammatory, false headlines, coverage of HER emails, declaring Trump has no connection with Russia, writing about clinton donors but arguing Trump donors shouldn't be revealed, 20,000 Trump WWC supporter stories.

Fwiw, the main reason I don't read the @nytimes much nowadays is that they AREN'T "burying the lede" much anymore, & the@BretStephensNYT's comes off as too busy doing the networking aspects of their job to want to catch flak for the pieces of swill they have to concoct.Thanks. We don't expect a newspaper to lead any resistance. We do expect a newspaper to not run misleading headlines that minimize the threat and undermine resistance to it.

You present a false dichotomy between the Times as it is and a resistence paper. The Times could also report the news without "tropism". The headline writer did not believe the headline was the truth. The rule is not to report the truth as one perceives it. Why not ?

I think the key problem is really that the refs have been worked. Timesmen (especially Baquet) are terrified of being accused of a liberal bias. That the Times has a liberal bias is a core tenet of US conservatism, so there is no limit to the right wing bias this fear can cause.
