Isn't there a difference between running Bernie Sanders (a candidate with his own brand that is distinct from socialist label) and running a generic socialist? I wouldn't say that Bernie's popularity is transferable to other socialists outside already very blue areas.

It was good for the problem of that era: spiking unemployment (~25%). Our probs are different: No or slow wage growth for non college-educ. folks, anxiety over demo. change, spiking costs for certain services (college tuition, child care, health care).

Seems to me that the people attacking Medicare for All (ie a healthcare system similar to those in most modern, developed countries) based on 19th century bromides about competition and ‘choice’ are the ones at war with modernity.
