The wackiest thing this last year has been watching political veterans tell everyone that "scandals are bad for the politicians implicated in them" represents some naive untested new-age hippie idea and not how politics has worked forever.

There's just no evidence that Clinton "scandals" hurt Gore in 2000. Just look at the debates - Clinton's name barely came up. (Literally - the "Clinton" was said a total of 8 times in the three debates.) And the only scandal mentioned had to do with fundraising.
