1. This is a good thread, well worth reading, explaining why people are mad at the Times. But there's a flip side to this: people expect too much of the Times (and journalism in general). They want the Times to save them from Trump. That's what's fuelling the rage.https://twitter.com/gregggonsalves/status/1155465927703629826 …

3. Does the Times sometimes screw up? Sure. Does the access journalism model lead to complicity with the powers-that-be. Yep. Does reflexive both-sides-ism lead to white-washing of Trump's unique threats & lawlessness? Sure. Is centrism reluctant to call racism by its name. Yes.

4. But all the flaws in the Times have to set against the often ground-breaking journalism which should be immensely damaging to Trump, like the report on his history of tax evasion. If this has failed to have an impact, that's not fault of Times but of political system.

5. This Times story is a real blockbuster which should have caused immense damage to Trump. The fact it didn't is the fault of the political system: of GOP complicity & Dem congress slow-walking investigations. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/10/02/us/politics/donald-trump-tax-schemes-fred-trump.html …

6. We have all the evidence of Trump's lawlessness that we need (thank in part to the Times & other news outlets). The responsibility for holding Trump in check is with congress, which can be influenced by public agitation. So that's where the focus of energy should be.

7. This is the big lesson of the Trump era. No big institutional force will save the world from Trump. Not the GOP. Not "the grown ups" in administration. Not the Deep State. Not Mueller. Not Pelosi. Not the Times. The only option is political organization and agitation.

People expect the national news media to report the news fairly. Adopting Trump's frame every damn time is not reporting the news fairly. We don't expect NY Times to save us. We are sick of seeing reporters transcribe, not report. But sure. Blame the "people."

Disagree. I think a lot of people believe the Times over-emphasis in Hills emails and over-civeragevif Teumo played a role in the election. Since then, there did by seem to be much self-reflection. Tweets are often printed without ‘lie/false’ beside them.
