I like the tendency to see art as a genre. Ozu movies were basically Japanese male nerd franchises. Kiarostami did Iranian male nerd franchises. Varda did French female nerd franchises. https://twitter.com/ira/status/1153428214993182720 …

Scorsese's been hit-and-miss for nearly 30 years & Tarantino has done some truly awful movies but "nerd franchises" is just the wrong category.

Scorsese needs an editor of real gravitas, someone he respects, who says, "Marty, there are five second-acts in this movie. We're getting rid of an hour."

Wait what has Tarantino done that was actually “truly awful” as opposed to “problematic as hell” or “not great overall but with some great scenes”?

You are complaining just for the sake of it. Both director's have made many of the best movies of the last 3 decades. Sure, Jackie Brown is a bit of a snooze and I never made it through Age of Innocence but pretty consistent otherwise.

At least half of what Scorsese has done has been entirely unrelated to the “gangster movie/dispossessed angry guy” stuff on which he built his reputation. Last Temptation of Christ, Age of Innocence, Silence, Kundun, After Hours, Hugo, Wolf of Wall Street, the Aviator, on and on.

Yup. The Last Waltz is one of the best rock band/concert films ever done.

Practically every director whos been making movies for 30 years is "hit and miss". Outside of Kubrick (and Im sure most people dont even agree with THAT example) name a great director who's every film was a gem?

Yeah, he's certainly made some films that are lesser than others, but calling Scorsese "hit and miss" seems far too cruel.
