I'd like to get an economist to comment on the Preston Sturges film The Great McGinty (1940). In the movie the Boss & McGinty are shown to be crooks but it seems to me their policies (debt funded make work projects) is the right one for a Depression
That makes sense. Although are the Boss & McGinty really elitists?

True, definitely different from Sullivan in that sense. I think it's still a similar idea, though - good leftist programs can be perverted into grifts (for ego or profit) absent genuine mass participation or self-governance.

That's a very interesting take. Makes sense. Interesting that Sturges brought back (and rehabilitated) the Boss & McGinity in Miracle at Morgan Creek.
