I had to re-read The World Is Flat recently, and have discovered the secret to tolerating prose style is to think of it as having been authored by Hunter S. Friedman on an amphetamine binge (it was apparently written in just three months).

Sentences like “we were dancing on the Wall, savoring our Apples, opening up our Windows, and proclaiming that there was no ideological alternative to free-market capitalism” are far more tolerable if you think of them as the by-product of indiscriminate narcotics consumption.

I was going to bring up Ayn Rand as a counterpoint explaining that quality goes down as word count increases, but PKD and Marvel are just as effective at proving that point.
