This was from The Anatomy Lesson, not one of my favorites, but I know immediately where to find the Olivetti versus IBM comparison.

Now I"m a big old weirdo. My favorite Roths are Goodbye, Columbus; When She Was Good; My Life as a Man; Portnoy's Complaint; Zuckerman Unbound. I dislike American Pastoral quite vigorously.

Roth bought that Franklin Mint stuff in 1975 when he was writing Professor of Desire. There's a scene in the novel where Kapesh's parents buy him some kitchy but expensive knick-knacks. Maybe research?
