2. The part of @kittypurrzog piece that I agree with (and will try to do better on!) is that the term pedophile gets used too loosely & there is a real benefit in keeping to the clinical definition.

3. But if we're going to forgo the term pedophile for everything expect those attracted to pre-pubescents, we still need a term for people who sexually abuse minors. Herzog's suggestion ("regular old abuser") doesn't quite do the trick.

Anybody, who is not a psychiatrist, seriously defends the difference between "pedophilia" and "ephebophilia" is not worth reading. In the U.S. both are illegal and immoral.

You don’t have to do this. Herzog doesn’t act in good faith. She’s essentially a troll.

Honestly, the attraction isn't the point. It's the serial abuse of child. Finding teenage girls attractive without luring them into your home with promises of financial/professional help, raping them, & then using them to recruit the next girl is just creepy w/o being abusive.

About 10% of 14-year-olds haven't gotten their periods yet. A grown man who rapes 14-year-olds is a pedophile in the most literal and scientifically accurate sense.

Furthermore, I don't see the point in fighting the colloquial consensus that "pedophile" means anyone who's attracted to underage kids. Unless you're Epstein's probation officer or his sex therapist, it doesn't matter.
