The Robin Williams remake of Auto Focus, One Hour Photo, was incredible.

Wow! Way too much time spent on this but I will say that eliminate the historical setting and Hogan's yHeroes was no worse than Friends and only slightly worse than Seinfeld. And by historical setting I mean the timeframe the show ran in.

I’ve long believed that Hogan’s Heros deliberately stood WWII POW movies, such as Stalag 17 and The Great Escape, on their head. What if the Germans were incompetent instead of industrially evil? What if the Allies were lazy instead of heroic? Ballsy or too soon? Never sure.

Hogan’s Heroes had a lot of Jewish actors. E.g. Werner Klemperer (Col. Klink) and John Banner (Sgt. Schultz) escaped Nazi Germany. Robert Clary (LeBeau) survived Buchenwald. Also recurring villains Burkhalter (Leon Askin) and Hochstetter (Howard Caine).

Wikipedia: Klemperer, Banner, Caine, Gould, and Askin play stereotypical World War II Germans, and all had served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II

For a while, whenever you visited the TV department in a store, Hogan's Heroes would be showing on all the demo screens. There was some weird quirk about it being the only show actually in HD instead of just upsampled from SD.

There's a long-running British TV game show, "Mastermind" — with a format based on the creator's experience of having been captured and interrogated by the Gestapo as a POW during the war. Hey, it was his experience, and that's how he dealt with it many years later.
