i'd bet the difference in your class backgrounds explains the some of the divergence in how you guys are seeing the same performance

I think the more interesting point is that Matt and Warren have very similar class backgrounds and educations. Also, Matt is the last person in the world to cleave to class identitarianism any more than any other identitarianism.

Right—but what else should she have said? That’s her real life experience. She started working class and is no longer working class. She needed child care at that point in her life (where, in fact, she was not professional). What else would you have her say about child care?

We have in that Jon Cohn kept underscoring how she synthesizes her working class background with her wonky policy proposals on the stump. You’re kind of implying she ignores her class background. But in her daily campaigning, she doesn’t do that at all.

And I guess Cohn and I are saying she is doing both—talking about her working class origins and also being an academic wonk. That’s her daily campaigning.

So here's a thought: because their coalitions are so different, a Bernie/Warren or Warren/Bernie ticket makes sense. Would unite two large swaths of the party.

Problem is, in any Bernie or Warren administration, there needs to be a Bernie or Warren in the Senate -- too few allies there as it is.

There are several concerns there. You might be able to skip past two of the oldest candidates—both white in a party 45% non white—from neighboring NE states sharing the ticket. But each of them would be replaced by GOP governors.

Does Bernie or Warren have a history of energizing minorities to the ballot box? How the hell do you propose to turnout black and brown vote at the levels we need with a ticket of Warren and Sanders?
