Are we finally going to start admitting that Danny Boyle, while sometimes talented, is deeply overrated?

I saw it more as a movie about boomers still trying to hold top spot in pop culture. “See, our band from 50 years ago is still better and more relevant than anything made since.”
-
The only appropriate response to a fatuous statement like that is: Our band from 50 years ago is still better and more relevant than anything made since.

Or....The Beatles are great and it’s a celebration of their music and a reminder of their greatness.

-
The problem is the movie simultaneously supposes the Beatles were great and had zero cultural impact. And too that their success was independent of both cultural factors and the band's own performance.

I just want a movie about Sixx, the guy who crashed the Foo Fighters Grammy acceptance speech in 2003 to thank B.B. King.pic.twitter.com/vBTp6DvY2b

The only really interesting thing about that is that it's not even an element of the plot. Other than his parents being types, Jack's ethnicity never has any relevance to anyone in the movie. The movie literally has nothing to say about it.
-
True, color-blind casting. His parents didn't even seem like types to me, except for Brit working class.
