I'm surprised that Biden was unable to say: "At the time, I saw busing as a flawed answer to the real problem of ed segregation, it was deepening racial divides, and we should find alternatives, like magnet schools or residential desegregation." That is how many liberals saw it.

Yes. And he’s outraged and genuinely shocked that his basic decency is being challenged. He thinks he beyond that. He’s just being visceral and reactive. He’s not thinking like a smart pol, but like an aggrieved old guy.
