They hit an unsustainable (at least back then) high in the polls in 2011, right after Fukushima. Never ever first party there before though. But the 2011 high led to the election of the first Green prime minister of a federal state – and one of the biggest & richest.

They're notorious for underperforming their poll percentage on actual election days – not least because the right-wing press used to write them down effectively then. But one of their leaders beats the CDU crown-princess in preference by chancellor by miles now – no fad, maybe!
