If you go to the beginning of this idiotic thread you'll see it began with me tweeting about Trump's policy right now. And then someone jumped in complaining about people who portrayed Trump as a peacenik. This provoked me to note that Clinton's campaign is more to blame.pic.twitter.com/RPnmCRMrSl

How many people portrayed Trump as a peacenik? Off the top of my head, I can think of a handful (Justin Raimondo, Michael Tracey, Glenn Greenwald). I see these people as having less of an impact than the misjudgements of the Clinton campaign.

You're not a Trump supporter! I think Jeff was saying that you portrayed Trump as a peacenik.

"The thing is Trump's foreign policy instincts are often good but he doesn't know how to make them into policy." Trump doesn't want war with Iran but through his ignorance of policy has appointed Bolton & now is stuck with bad policy. So original position still stands.

You haven't called him a peacenik, but I think you've oversold his isolationist and antiwar tendencies, esp. given what we know now.

March 2016, I specifically wrote that isolationist was the wrong term for Trump and he's a unilateralist -- a tradition of nationalist assertion rather than pacifism.https://newrepublic.com/article/132044/donald-trumps-foreign-policy-revolution …

yeah, I think you tend to fall for the clever fallacy with Trump. he doesn't represent a shadow tradition. he barely knows what he's talking about from moment to moment.

your effort to parse his statements and make them consistent has led you to characterize him in somewhat inconsistent ways over time.

I think someone could come away from that thinking that Clinton was more likely to take us to war, which I think was pretty obviously not the case.
