Come on. Private prisons are a small fraction of the total and have not been in the driver’s seat in the creation of disastrous policies. They’re a symptom that Warren is misrepresenting as a cause.

Politics is about creating a coalition of friends to fight common foes. A big part of mobilization is naming the enemy in the form of a convenient, easily detestably synecdoche. Private prisons serve that function well.
