Dana, you're defending a campaign that had the worst Democratic Party electoral showing since 1988 against a realty show buffoon who boasted on tape of grabbing women by the pussy. Do you need numbers to know that campaign fucked up?

She won the popular vote. Maybe it’s hard to win third terms and trump didn’t quite underperform enough. Dems did well last two years in any case, so doesn’t seem like there’s a permanent problem w their approach...

Whaaat? They got arrogant and neglected to go to MI, WI & PA to ask people for their votes like you're supposed to and instead campaigned in AZ. They totally bought into the Kate McKinnon SNL bit and preemptively spiked the football...

It was sooooooooooooo arrogant of them to not prepare for the Comey memos. I mean, everyone knew they were coming!

Well, yeah, but if you want to go down that rabbit hole it was actually Bill that lost the election for Hillary. If he hadn't have pulled that tarmac stunt going and talking to the acting AG (which aids were begging him not to do...) the whole email thing probably woulda wilted.

Saying someone lost because of one thing is bad analysis. She would have won if you take out only the Russians, or only the second Comey letter. Bill thing was a negative, but w only a very small effect on the overall outcome. She was polling 4-5 pts ahead in late June, when…

Well, but, it's *all* one thing. If Bill hadn't have pulled the tarmac stunt then Fox News couldn't have kept blaring conspiracy theory BS and the Comey letter probs would have never happened. I actually think the Russian thing is overblown. It was the letter which Bill caused...

I think there’s plenty of evidence that Comey’s letters were motivated by self-righteousness, naïveté, & probably most of all, concerns about leaks from within the FBI that he was soft on Clinton. I mean, didn’t even bother to tell Lynch about his presser until that day.

Because Lynch was scene as a Clinton stooge by the Fox News crowd (who BTW had a majority in the House and the Senate at the time...). The whole thing was a fucking joke. Everybody does what she did! If the tarmac thing hadn't have happened it would have fizzled...

If Fox didn’t have that they would have used something else real, or invented something.

If Fox would've invented something against Clinton even in absence of Comey letter, then it was reckless to bank so heavily on suburban GOP crossover voters, who are uniquely susceptible to Fox propaganda.

it wasn't just Fox, though? the Comey letter effect was hardly restricted to Fox, and neither were the emails. Clinton also did an unprecedented amount of anti racist messaging, which was hardly focused on suburban GOP crossover.

Exactly, they got arrogant and held events in Detroit and Milwaukee and didn't get out to the other towns and ask for their votes like Obama did in 2008 (unless I'm totally mistaken O was a campaigning machine that went everywhere not just the big cities).
