Some context has been missing from some of the Trump-Lincoln tweets: Trump was claiming "the press" in particular has treated him worse than anyone else including Lincoln, not that he's generally been treated worse than anyone else including Lincoln.https://twitter.com/ktumulty/status/1140440538266648576 …

Totally fair - I just want to give people the correct context so they don't get the wrong impression Trump was suggesting he was broadly treated worse than a guy who got murdered.
-
Must be weird writing this tweet: "Just want to give people the correct context that Trump is poor at being specific when he communicates"

Meanwhile Trumps rhetoric is leading to the press being under increased threat of physical violence and death.

You don't have to limit to limit scope only to southern press to see Lincoln being treated (very) poorly by the press fwiw.

Northern copperhead press was similar

Yeah, absolutely. And in fact I can think of lots other presidents who got really bad press (FDR, Obama). One Hearst newspaper basically called for the assassination of McKinley (before it happened).

Do you really believe John Wilkes Booth and his fellow conspirators needed to be incited by the Southern Press to assassinate the President who’s army they believed invaded and destroyed the South?
