An existential threat threatens existence. Human beings are not on the verge of going extinct in the next half century and there is and could be no science to “prove” otherwise.

Those who take issue with this term being applied to the climate crisis, anything short of the realistic near-term extinction doesn't qualify. But the term comes from existentialism, which was concerned not with the risk to existence but the meaning of it.
-
One could also make a strong case that the "existence" under threat is that of our current civilization, social order, etc. (Which may amount to more or less the same thing as the "meaning" of our existence.)

"Consensus science" is a made-up term that means nothing. Science isn't about consensus.
