Comics folks, especially those with an interest in history: Which books, esp reprints, were fundamental to the rise of direct-market comics retail in the 1980's after the decline of head shops? Cerebus, DKR, Watchmen, L&R, what else?

In terms of sales, some now forgotten titles from First and Pacific helped set the direct market apart as a separate thing: Kirby's Captain Victory, Chaykin's American Flagg! etc.
