This whole Catholic integralism debate makes me think that if the Democrats to win broadly in 2020 (say the presidency & Senate), the American right is going to go batshit crazy in a way that will make Trumpism seem like the essence of moderation & prudence.

The whole resurgence of Catholic integralism is another example of how William F. Buckley's fabled taming of the hard right was a temporary & incomplete phenomenon, often more a papering over of harsh disputes rather than a resolution of them.
