eh...Given that we're looking at an ecological crisis -- and a radically reactionary GOP with a large and increasing structural advantage in the Senate -- embracing the imperial presidency seems like a reasonable move *precisely because* Trump isn't an aberration.

The presidency isn't popularly elected -- but it's closer to being popularly elected than Congress is! In our current predicament, the alternatives to strengthening the powers of the most democratically accountable (and Democratically winnable) branch of government aren't obvious
