The Leo Strauss-St. John's College connection is often overlooked. Many who studied with him are still alive and offer very thoughtful (and not so right-wing apostolic) reflections.

An incredible book. I have no clue about Seth Benardete's politics beyond anti-authoritarian. I emailed Harvey Mansfield, who knew him. What was Benardete? Conservative? Liberal? He emailed me in 2003, "Perhaps he was above conservatism, if such a thing is possible."

Benardete has a great story about how reactionary W.V.O. Quine was.

Right. Quine reacted to Sputnik completely incredulously, or in Benardete's words, "as a Republican from Ohio."
