"If Trump would take his acquittal by the Senate as vindication of his behavior, what conclusion would he and future presidents draw from the House’s refusal to impeach him for it in the first place?" It’s fucked up, but since a Trump win in 2020 is plausible, and a Dem Senate and House equally plausible, there is some small argument for holding off. Nixon was impeached after getting re-elected too.

That's true. The House needs to act. The question is which are the best tools.

One important variable is that Senators DO NOT want to take this vote. Collins, Gardner, Murkowski, Tillis, McSally, etc are terrified of the consequences of holding this vote.

Yes. It seems like using impeachment power at all in future will be impossible. It becomes a dead letter. Now, it may already be so, due to polarization and 2/3rds vote in senate. But to not even attempt to impeach the absolute worst norm- and law-breaking president is a thing.

IMO, it does just seem that way. It'll be that way. After all, what would it take if not this? Especially on
#EmolumentsClause violations because they're so egregious.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
