1. Can I explain all the ways this is bullshit?https://twitter.com/robbysoave/status/1131596506602049537 …

2. So here's the situation: Turning Points USA hires Kyle Kashuv to be poster boy, a valuable asset since he's a Parkland shooting survivor. But it turns out there is a long record of Kashuv using n-word & other slurs so TPUSA cuts him lose.

3. So Kashuv was hired & promoted mainly for something that happened to him as a teen, to be part of a youth organization said to be the voice of young conservatives, but we're told we can't judge him for his behavior at age 16.https://twitter.com/robbysoave/status/1131596506602049537 …
Jeet Heer added,
Robby SoaveVerified account @robbysoaveSince the media gleefully rejoices in the opportunity to destroy teenagers, I'm not surprised they are coming for@KyleKashuv. Villager, if you are reaching for a pitchfork right now, think about how you'd look if everything you'd said as a high schooler was preserved forever.Show this thread4 replies 37 retweets 223 likesShow this thread -

4. Further, it's ridiculous to treat this event in isolation. Turning Points USA has a long history of hiring people who use n-word & other expression of anti-Black racism. So this isn't just about one 16 year old kid but an organization. https://twitter.com/AlexMLeo/status/1131551078695276544 …

5. Also: Soave says we shouldn't judge the 16 year old Kashuv for using the n-word but he's built an entire career upbraiding slightly older teens (17 plus) for being PC or going to far left politically.https://twitter.com/OsitaNwanevu/status/1131627216545157120 …

6. The deeper problem is that Soave's argument involves a normalization of teen use of ethnic slurs. A story: a friend has a 10-year old son, who heard a classmate use slur. Son politely but firmly criticized. By Soave's standard how can we praise that son?

Replying to @HeerJeet
Isn't there anything between "normalization" and "you should be ostracized forever for teenage use of ethnic slurs even if you apologize"?

Who is saying he's ostracized forever? He was kicked out of TPUSA (a hard thing to achieve!) and not getting into Harvard (as most kids who apply to Harvard do). He'll be fine. Let him grow up.

The point is Soave created a fake straw man that mainly serves to critique much milder rebukes that are the reality of fears happening. This Soave’s critiques are either addressing fiction or more about Jeet’s point.
