1. I'd lean into this a bit more and say that Trump & Obama broke the mold in completely different ways.https://twitter.com/jtlevy/status/1130146945064947715 …

TBF, Obama was the President with the least experience in federal or statewide office since ... JFK? Hoover? Teddy Roosevelt?
-
He was younger than most presidents so by definition had lighter experience. Hoover held no elected office ever before becoming VP & then presidential candidate.

In terms of traditional qualifications Obama was a bit light: not even a full term in the Senate. The fact that he was an excellent President suggests that traditional formal qualifications may be overrated.

Comparing them at all seems completely ridiculous. It only helps to further normalize Trump.

1, HRC was more qualified than most recent Presidents, although qualifications haven't matter, as the losses of Gore and McCain show. Obama would be on the bottom end of Presidents in terms of traditional qualifications.
-
2. Obama didn't serve a full term in statewide office, and was in the Congress for four years, much of it part-time due to his presidential campaign. It's important to note qualifications on paper aren't everything: Lincoln was a one-term Congressman and did OK.

What kinds of “qualifications” are really even necessary to be POTUS besides high general aptitude and very good-to-excellent knowledge of American history, world affairs, and possibly macroeconomics? It’s not like a technical job with ahighly specialized skill as an iron prereq.

Let’s not confuse padding a resume with being qualified to serve as president. Sure, Hillary had a great looking resume, but her poor job performance at the jobs on her resume, such as voting for the Iraq invasion and pushing to bomb Libya, showed her to be unqualified.

Terrible take.
