      1. It's really worth paying attention to Biden's words here. “Some say Democrats are angry...well I don’t believe it.” We have an unaddressed climate crisis, abortion rights under siege, migrant kids detained & dying, maybe war with Iran but Uncle Joe is not angry.https://twitter.com/Olivianuzzi/status/1129720696702230528 …

You should consider analyzing what happened in 2018 not just what happened in 2016.

2018 victories were fuelled by resistance anger against Trump. Biden now wants to tamp down on that anger in the name of "unity."

This is really inaccurate. You should actually look at what happened in swing districts.

Indeed lots of dems in swing districts campaigned on - gasp - bipartisanship.

Swing districts are not the whole of America. To treat all of America as a swing district is to pursue a campaign message that will demobilize key Democratic voting blocs. I really don't see the point of repeating all the folly that elected Trump.

The inability to see the difference between 2016 and 2019 is one of the main reasons twitter pundits are so out of touch with Dem voters. Lots of people thought Trump couldn’t win. Now he’s there. That fact changes a lot of behavior.

The assumption here is that progressive voters, because they hate Trump so much, will hold their nose & vote for Biden even if he runs on milquetoast restorationist message. Possibly true but not a good recipe for a politics to deal with big issues like climate & courts.

"Swing districts are not the whole of America" No, it's not and you would 1000% correct if the WH was decided on the popular vote. But it won't. It will be decided on the Electoral College - which means "swing districts."

So yes, maybe Urban/Progressive voter in a Blue State stays home instead of holding their nose & voting for Biden. (it would stupid & selfish to not care about Trump winning. Or even sending a message by Trump losing the popular vote again. But voters can be stupid & selfish)

Presidential campaigns are not the ideal forum to be on the bleeding edge of causes. I understand why Obama "evolved" on gay marriage. Biden is not particularly to my liking. Unfortunately the presence of Bernie in the field means the party has to coalesce behind a Democrat

Set aside whether that's true re climate and the courts for a moment. For now what is pretty clearly fueling Biden is belief he's most likely to beat Trump. Beating Trump is by definition a predicate for **any** positive change. So it makes sense to address that issue, no?

And positive change? Is G.W.Bush is a positive change vs Trump. There are loads of very ugly things that are a positive change compared to Trump. And keep in mind Hillary was also most likely going to beat Trump. She's not in office, he is.

Sanders & his supporters never mentioned the courts in ‘16. They thought they could bring on their “Revolution” by electing Trump. The world woukd look a lot different w/ two HRC nominees on the Court but Sanders couldn’t be bothered about that.

I actually feel like Biden is running on a mashup of Barack Obama's DNC/2004 and 2008 messages -- that America is a fundamentally good, loving, unified, bipartisan country that somehow just got stuck with a bad president and with him defeated, we can get back to "normal."

The challenge is that almost no one who is very active politically on the Democratic side believes that we can just pop back to some "normal" place. It ignores the genuine fear, dread and outrage that is animating anti-Trumpism (and also ignores other Republicans like McConnell).
