A serious request: I would like someone who opposes impeachment explain to me why impeachment proceedings aren't required if you have credible evidence a president obstructed justice?

Jeet Heer Retweeted Mr. Nick Beaudrot

Okay, this is the best answer: impeachment is both a political & a legal process, so if you think the politics is bad you can refrain even if (as now) the president has clearly committed impeachable offences. But still leaves a questionhttps://twitter.com/nbeaudrot/status/1125797474457739270 …

I'm pro impeachment. The Federalist Papers argue impeachment is always at some level a political calculation. And elected officials are allowed to decide it's bad politics. That seems like a bug in presidential democracy vs a parliamentary system.

Let's say, arguendo, that impeachment is politically unwise & agree it's not required. We're still left with the problem of president who has clearly, obviously & in front of our eyes obstructed justice. What is the remedy for that?

Not sure I understand your question--the Constitution does not REQUIRE impeachment in any case.

I'm not wholly opposed, but what is the point when Senate won't fire him despite impeachment.

Here we go.... so all the bills the Congress passes which they know damn well will never get passed in senate..we should just forget them and the fact that it’s Congress JOB to impeach as per the constitution we should just forget that too....

I support impeachment proceedings but to play Devil's Advocate, its the fact that Impeachment is a political as well as a legal process, and the political calculation is that bringing proceedings would ultimately aid the Republicans to not only retain the Senate but win the House

“We betrayed our constitutional duty to win an election” is not a good campaign slogan. Democrats must impeach or they’re unfit for office.

Because the shrinking group of people who’ll vote against you no matter what will get extra super duper fired up and ... not vote for you *extra* hard next election? At least that’s what I’ve gathered from Punditworld.
