I'm no fan of UnKoch My Campus. They have no business hounding folks like @thomas_cushman or maligning a university just because it took money from the Kochs. But lines were clearly crossed at GMU. Big, clear lines.

Not tainted, but caution may be warranted. All of this needs to get spelled out in the donor agreement.

Why are there even donor agreements in the first place? How about they click on the donate button online or mail a check like everyone else? A donor agreement, at least to me, implies that the donor is getting something out of it, some sort of quid pro quo.

Even if funding doesn't taint the scientific findings of a particular project, it can taint the allocation of resources: staffing, labspace, equipment time. In Ways that are longer-lasting and farther-reaching than an individual research publication.
