Given the gravity of much of it, I think they'll take what they can get, up to and including getting away with it, but the short-term news cycles and making Trump happy are OK, too.

I don’t think that means the goal isn’t to get away with it. It means the goal is to get away with it one day at a time rather than there being a long term vision for escaping accountability.

Pump everything through the partisanship meat grinder in a hyper-short cycle to give you a 35% floor... and therefore paralyze Congressional Republicans into inaction as to not rile primary voter base.
