These are repulsive people. Also, it should be glaringly obvious that the title of this book is very much a part of the problem. Can we just admit that making "whiteness" the go-to term for "white racism" was not a smart idea?https://twitter.com/TimothyNoah1/status/1122278666787000321 …

literally : IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHITENESS IS EVIL YOU'RE A WHITE SUPREMACIST. I might recommend a different message if you want to beat Trump in 2020.

It’s the
#GrievanceStudies provocateurs that like to muddle the waters between people with ‘white’ skin and ‘whiteness’. It’s intentional - and it’s not working out well for them.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

"Whiteness" has a very plain meaning in the English language. It means "being white." That's how people who aren't versed in woke jargon hear it. Hence, my point: making "whiteness" a synonym for racism was a very bad idea.

This is the exact same argument I hear from xenophobes and anti-islamists when they are accused of being racist. They complain their critics can't make the distinction between hating someone for the color of their skin and critiques of illegal immigration or terrorism.
-
The answer is if course we can make the distinction. We can just also see why their concerns are so narrowly focused on a particular racial group.

That distinction is only made to deflect criticism of obvious racism. The people who rail against 'white privilege' are the same people who turn to you and say 'ugh, so many white people'.
