Just claimed in an email to a student that Making of the English Working Class was one of the two or three most important books in postwar historiography. (a) is this true, and (b) is what are the others in that category?

In terms of scholarship around the world, I'd say Foucault (Discipline & Punishment), Braudel, Eric Williams, Hobsbawm, Carlo Ginzburg & Natalie Zemon Davis.
