Peterson and Zizek talking religion is a good case study for why we need scholars of religion and not just random dudes who think they can pick up an academic discussion they’re eminently unqualified for.

He enjoys being a provocateur. I liked reading him some 10y ago (or more) but have not read him since.

He spreads himself thin, but people who dislike his shtick dismiss his serious work too easily. He isn't a pseudo-intellectual, he's a pretty serious philosopher with real cultural learning who's found an odd and somewhat irritating (but successful) way of being heard.
