When I was at the National Post, it got in a bidding war for the right to reprint (reprint!) a Tom Wolfe article from The Times. Paper ended up paying $12,000. It was another era.
Yeah, but I think the agency is taking directions from the estate holder, which I believe is a nephew who is trying to extract as much $$ as possible. Many of the modernists have had difficult/messy estates: Joyce, Eliot, Pound, Zukofsky.
