1. I was reading (Lord knows why) Wyndham Lewis' "Left-Wing Over Europe" (1936) a philo-fascist tract arguing on "anti-war" grounds for appeasement & was struck by how much it anticipates ideology of contemporary right-wing populist/nationalists of the Bannon ilk.

The idea that these Bannon-ite pepe's might have an ideological pedigree going any further back than Camp of the Saints is really scary, tiresome and repulsive. all at the same time.

Read Mark Lilla's "the Ship Wrecked Mind" its a survey of reactionary thought that shows just how deep the roots of the current situation go.

Reminded of a conversation I had a couple years back about the "lol nothing matters" attitudes of channers and the similarities to the large chunk of Dadaists that threw in with the Fascists. The patterns are weird.

Trying to think of a way to elaborate on that that doesn't sound like pat "horseshoe theory" stuff but a lot of people forget so many of the contrarian tendencies within historical groups, they all get stereotyped as being like the best-known representatives of their philosophies

Zeev Sternhell has written enlightening work on history of far right/far left politics in France (and beyond). Good stuff if memory serves me well.

IMO, a big problem is that the existing academic and media folks generally don't know how to interact with places like 4chan and 8chan, and so they're left working from people like Nagle, who is herself an outsider with limited access.
