I seem to remember Trump publicly agreeing w what Bernie had said about Hillary. So he probably went negative enough to have at least some effect on the race.https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1114286914851495936 …

      2. In 2016 my big concern with Sanders was I thought he was running a protest campaign & wasn't really focused on winning the nomination (as opposed to pushing the party left). This could be seen most clearly in fact he didn't go as negative on Clinton as he could have.

Hillary Clinton ran a far more negative campaign against Obama in 2008, using themes that were later adopted by the GOP, and yet Obama still won handily.

HRC was also much more competitive and when the primary was over not only stopped being negative she immediately began mobilizing for Obama. Also HRC didn't go negative against Democrats collectively just against Obama

          A. McCain might have won had he yanked on racist chains. Obama people knew this. Most of the stuff about McCain being honorable is treacly hoohaa, but in this rare case it’s deserved. B. Clinton’s attacks weren’t systemic. Made it easier to move to Obama C. Russia vs no Russia...

          D. I’m not saying there weren’t any, but I honestly don’t remember GOP attacks used by Hillary other than mandate and age/experience. Those were meh attacks E. Hillary’s convention delegates didn’t boo her when she declared her support of Obama...

Obama is a better politician than Hillary. Also, after 8 yrs. of W, 2 wars & econ. debacle the field was ready for a Dem. It's one thing that Americans love above all else, is the "new shiny thing" aka change. It always baffles me when people ignore context.
