YUP. Editors who publish essays by men who were accused by over 20 women of beating the shit out of them while having sex should be run out of town. Especially when there are photographs of the bruised women -- on Ghomeshi's phone.

Sooo... accusations are the standard by which we judge things now? And incidentally the very same charges, when tested in court, spectacularly fell apart. You'd think that would prompt some humility among the pitchfork-wielding crowd.

I am *quite* sick of this absurd, reductionist argument about legal standards. The point is that the legal system does not protect women from men like Ghomeshi. Attitudes must change. I knew and the women who worked near Ghomeshi knew as far back as 2005 that he was a predator.

As Kathryn Borel said in her statement to the press, she went to CBC management about Ghomeshi's abuse and was told there was no avenue to punish him. You need to think about this issue with some compassion, and from a woman's perspective.

You think 21 women just woke up one day and decided to make up stories about Jian Ghomeshi? Do you have any idea how difficult it was to come forward? For heaven's sake.

I didn't think that initially until the cases went to court and the accusers were exposed as liars (which even the judge noted.) That's why we have the adversarial system and not one based on your whims and beliefs.

The court system failed those women. I am appalled at your callous, dismissive attitude. The idea that women exposing a deep trauma to public scrutiny is a "whim." They claim that they are "liars." I don't even want to continue this exchange. I hope you'll rethink your attitude.

You should read the judge's take on the accusers.

I *did* read the judge's verdict. I followed the case very carefully. I wonder if you did. And I wonder if you read *any* post trial analysis. https://www.chatelaine.com/news/the-bleak-lessons-of-the-ghomeshi-trial/ …

The problem with much of the analysis is that it's not based on the judge's actual finding. Sorry, but I'm kind of a stickler for the actual facts determined in a court and value them more than the views of Chatelaine magazine.

So you believe O.J. Simpson was innocent of murder? And that Al Capone was guilty of nothing more than tax evasion?

No, but OJ's accusers were not found by the judge to be lacking in credibility. And I don't believe someone running an article by OJ about his experience of facing a murder charge should lose his job.

If someone ran an article by OJ that was full of factual errors, showing that the editor did not carry out even minimal due diligence on the piece he had commissioned for one of the most prestigious literary journals in the English language, then he should indeed be fired.
