Isn’t the much simpler inference either that either the Flynn effect is a historically localized phenomenon, or that what we’ve tracked over the past few decades is the upswing of a pendulum effect?

I mean, most of the explanations I’ve seen posited for the Flynn effect have something to do with technologial change. I don’t think anyone’s ever posited it’s some constant that’s been operating for all of human history.
