The economy two-step. Democrats get in when people are sick of GOP bigotry and economic exploitation. They drop only the bigotry (somewhat), and people throw their hands up and stay home. Then the GOP gets in again. Rinse and repeat, we've done the controlled opposition tango.

Exactly. You captured the essence of the problem. Dem elites are part of the same oligarchy. They will throw occasional bones at the public, like job retraining and such, but the superstructure of neoliberalism remains.

Isn't that kind of a weird way to characterize Zeke Emanuel though? All I know about him is what I recall reading circa ten years ago, but I thought he was supposed to have had a huge advisory/theory role in the creation of the ACA?
