This is a strong and provocative @fmanjoo column on how obsession with Trump/Russia has distracted us from all the other factors contributing to the 2016 outcome. I'd push back on one point, though: it understates Comey's impact.

But I don't think the column is really about what '18 midterm candidates were focused on. It's about what the media & concerned citizens generally have been fixating on. Take it from one who's been trying to write about "the other stuff" that it's not been easy to break through.

I'll take your word for it as an important member of "the media." But, speaking as someone with decades of work in the soc sciences, people are writing about "concerned citizens"...well... somewhat ignorantly. (Diner interviewers with voters haven't helped at all, either.)
